Metropolitan Damaskinos of Joppa Visits ROCOR Synodal Cathedral
A look at the historic relationship between the Jerusalem Patriarchate and the Russian Church Abroad.
On Thursday, September 10, Archbishop Damaskinos of Joppa (Jerusalem Patriarchate) visited the Synodal Headquarters of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia (ROCOR) in New York City. There, His Eminence met with Metropolitan Nicholas of Eastern America & New York, First Hierarch of ROCOR, who led him on a tour of the Synodal cathedral and residence.
Archbishop Damaskinos was able to venerate the wonderworking Kursk Root Icon of the Mother of God and several important relics kept in the cathedral, including the right hand of the Holy Nun-Martyr Grand Duchess Elizabeth. (St. Elizabeth’s full relics – as well as those of her faithful attendant Nun-Martyr Barbara – reside at ROCOR’s Gethsemane Convent in Jerusalem).
