Hellenic College Holy Cross Signs Agreement for $31 Million Conservation Land Sale
Proceeds from sale of nearly 26 acres will bolster the school's endowment while preserving the property as protected open space.
BROOKLINE, MA — Hellenic College Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology (HCHC) has signed a Purchase and Sale Agreement to sell nearly 26 acres of undevelopable land on its campus, with the property to be permanently preserved through one of the nation's leading land conservation organizations. This was announced in a release sent to UOJ-America by the school.
Under the agreement, approximately 25.98 acres will be transferred to The Trustees of Reservations following the completion of due diligence and regulatory approvals. The purchase price is based on $1.2 million per acre, for an estimated total of $31.2 million, subject to final survey adjustments.
The agreement includes a 90-day due diligence period during which engineering, environmental, and subdivision reviews will be completed before the transaction proceeds to closing.
Abp. Elpidophoros of the Greek Orthodox of America, chairman of HCHC's Board of Trustees, described the agreement as "a truly historic milestone in the life of our institution," and credited the administration and Board of Trustees for bringing the transaction to this stage.
According to the school, proceeds from the sale will be added to HCHC's endowment, strengthening the institution's long-term financial stability and supporting its educational, theological, and spiritual mission.
Board of Trustees member Bill Spell said that although additional steps remain before the sale is finalized, the agreement represents "a major step toward securing the long-term future of Hellenic College Holy Cross."
Once completed, the transaction will place the land under permanent conservation, ensuring it remains protected for future generations.
Previously, the UOJ reported that HCHC had celebrated its 84th commencement.
