Orthodox Youth Movement Reunion Centers on Prayer and Fellowship

BOLIVAR, PA — Dozens of members of the Orthodox Youth Movement (MJO) living in North America gathered with Metr. Saba of the Antiochian Archdiocese at Antiochian Village Camp from Aug. 21-24 for a reunion centered on prayer, fellowship, and spiritual reflection.

The gathering drew on the MJO’s long history of spiritual renewal within the Patriarchate of Antioch and All the East. Founded in 1942 by young university students and formally recognized by the Antiochian Holy Synod in 1945, the movement has contributed to theological education, monastic renewal, clergy formation, and the spiritual life of generations of Orthodox Christians.

During the reunion, MJO Secretary General Elie Kebbe joined participants by Zoom from Lebanon and discussed three enduring principles of the movement: unity in Christ, discovering and using individual talents for the benefit of others, and outreach to the surrounding community. Metropolitan Saba later reflected on the Samaritan Woman and the believer’s movement from earthly concerns toward deeper knowledge of Christ.

Following Sunday’s Divine Liturgy, Metr. Saba spoke about the importance of prayer, mutual support, holistic spiritual life, and humility in church ministry. Participants also shared experiences from their local parishes before joining in informal fellowship, including games, songs, and a bonfire.

The reunion concluded Monday after Orthros, with participants departing with renewed commitment to the movement and hopes that the gathering will become an annual tradition. The MJO continues its work through local centers and parish branches, emphasizing prayer, fellowship, education, outreach, and humble service.
