A U.S. National Iftar Prayer delegation visited the Patriarchal House in Damascus and toured St. Mary’s Cathedral.
DAMASCUS, SYRIA — A delegation from the administration of the National Iftar Prayer in the United States visited the Patriarchal House in Damascus on June 16, 2026, as part of a visit highlighting ties between religious communities and institutions.
The delegation was received by Bp. Romanos Al-Hanat, the Patriarchal Representative of the Patriarchate of Antioch. During the visit, members of the group met with church representatives and learned about the life and ministry of the Patriarchate in Syria.
Following the reception, the delegation toured St. Mary’s Cathedral, one of the principal churches of the Patriarchate. The visit provided an opportunity for guests to become more familiar with the history, spiritual heritage, and ongoing mission of the Orthodox Church in the region.
According to the Patriarchate, the visitors were associated with the administration of the National Iftar Prayer, an annual event in the United States that brings together senior government officials, members of Congress, religious leaders, and community representatives. The gathering is traditionally attended by the President of the United States and serves as a forum for dialogue and engagement among diverse religious and civic communities.
The visit formed part of continuing efforts to foster mutual understanding and strengthen relationships between religious institutions and international partners.
Previously, the UOJ reported that Metr. Saba stood with Patr. John X amid attacks in Syria.
