Report Claims Sharp Rise in Attack on Christians in Holy Land
A new report reveals escalating violence, property damage, and humanitarian crises threatening Christians in Gaza and the West Bank, calling for urgent international support.
JERUSALEM — The Jerusalem Council of Churches has issued a report detailing an alarming increase in violence, restrictions, and economic pressures on Christians in the Holy Land. Published by Orthodoxia News Agency on December 25, the report highlights attacks on churches, schools, and hospitals, particularly in Gaza and the West Bank.
In Gaza, fewer than 600 Christians remain sheltered in two church complexes, including the Holy Family Church and St. Porphyrius, with Al-Ahli Hospital operating at five times capacity amid shortages of medicines and limited humanitarian aid.
The West Bank has also seen rising settler attacks on churches, properties, and believers, while unfair taxation continues to threaten the operation of religious institutions.
The Council emphasizes the urgent need for peace, protection of religious freedom, and support for church-run humanitarian efforts. It calls on the international community to aid in rebuilding damaged sites, safeguard Christian communities, and ensure the continuation of faith-based services in the region.
Previously, the UOJ reported that the Patriarch of Jerusalem had hailed the Gaza ceasefire.
