Metr. Tychikos Denounces “Distorted Reality” in Media Reports
Metr. Tychikos says distorted reporting has obscured a deeper dispute over fairness, process, and pastoral responsibility.
PAPHOS, CYPRUS — As reported by UOJ-Greece, Metropolitan of Paphos Tychikos has issued a formal response rejecting recent media reports that he says misrepresent his living conditions, salary status, and health, calling for accuracy, restraint, and respect for ecclesiastical institutions.
In a press release dated January 27, Metr. Tychikos clarified that he does not reside in the administrative buildings of the Metropolis of Paphos. Instead, he lives modestly in a small room located in the garden of the Metropolis, using only his personal belongings and without any financial burden on the Metropolis for food or medical care.
The statement also notes that his salary was reduced by 55 percent without a decision of the Holy Synod, raising concerns about legality and pastoral sensitivity. It further expresses dismay over what it describes as a lack of personal concern from Abp. Georgios, acting as locum tenens, regarding his health and welfare.
Metr. Tychikos stressed that he seeks truth, transparency, and unity, not confrontation, and urged media outlets to verify information before publication.
Previously, the UOJ reported that Metr. Tychikos challenged the Synod while Cyprus plans new Metropolitan.
