Abp. John of Albania returns to Holy Cross to honor the missionary legacy of Abp. Anastasios.

BROOKLINE, MA — At the invitation of Abp. Elpidophoros of America, His Beatitude Abp. John of Albania will deliver the keynote address at an international conference honoring the legacy of the late Abp. Anastasios. The conference, titled “Anastasios: Archbishop, Theologian, Missionary,” will be held March 2–4, 2026, at Holy Cross Theological Seminary and is organized by the Huffington Ecumenical Institute in collaboration with the HCHC Missionary Institute.

Abp. Elpidophoros described the visit as an opportunity to reflect on the life of Abp. Anastasios, who “literally resurrected the Orthodox Church” in Albania following decades of militant atheism, and to renew ties between the Orthodox Churches of Albania and the United States.

The visit marks Abp. John's first trip to North America since his election and enthronement. It also represents a return to the seminary where he studied theology in the 1990s, earning a Master of Theological Studies with high distinction and later being named to the National Dean’s List.

Previously, the UOJ reported that HCHC would host a conference on the life and legacy of Abp. Anastasios of Albania.
