Ukrainian Archbishop Visits Ecumenical Patriarch En Route to Germany

Abp. Daniel met Patr. Bartholomew in Constantinople, highlighting Ukrainian Church ministry and the upcoming seminary jubilee.

CONSTANTINOPLE — During a brief stop in the city on his way to Düsseldorf, Germany, Abp. Daniel of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA was received at the Patriarchal Offices by Patr. Bartholomew. The meeting took place in a spirit of fraternal dialogue and pastoral concern for the life of the Orthodox Church and its faithful worldwide.

During their conversation, Abp. Daniel informed the Patriarch about the ministries and spiritual life of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the USA, highlighting pastoral initiatives, humanitarian outreach, and continued support for those suffering in Ukraine amid the ongoing war. He also discussed the upcoming 50th anniversary of St. Sophia Ukrainian Orthodox Theological Seminary, emphasizing its role in forming clergy, theologians, and church leaders for Ukrainian Orthodox communities in North America and throughout the diaspora.

Abp. Daniel conveyed greetings from Metr. Antony (Scharba) and offered birthday wishes to the Patriarch, thanking him for his spiritual leadership and support for the Ukrainian people. As a gesture of respect, he presented Patr. Bartholomew with a work by Ukrainian artist Olena Kozak depicting a warrior angel, symbolizing hope and the defense of truth amid suffering.

Previously, the UOJ reported that the Ecumenical Patriarchate elected Archimandrite Dionysios Anagnostopoulos to the episcopacy.
