Metr. Theodosy Hospitalized Following Worsening Condition
Doctors say previous injuries and severe hypertension have combined to worsen the health of Metr. Theodosy following a 2024 cathedral attack.
CHERKASY, UKRAINE — As reported by UOJ-Ukraine, the worsening health condition of Metr. Theodosy of Kaniv and Cherkasy has been linked to injuries sustained during a violent incident at the Cherkasy cathedral in October 2024, according to medical findings cited by diocesan sources.
Doctors at a cardiology inpatient unit reportedly conducted an MRI scan and a full diagnostic evaluation, which confirmed trauma to the hierarch’s cervical spine and head. Church sources said the injuries are believed to have occurred when the Metropolitan was struck during the seizure of the cathedral, an episode in which he was allegedly hit on the head with a wooden stick.
Medical professionals have since identified additional complications, including stage III chronic arterial hypertension, which specialists say has significantly worsened his overall condition. Cardiologists, according to the same reports, have recommended immediate hospitalization and continuous round-the-clock monitoring due to elevated health risks.
The Metropolitan’s condition is being monitored closely as concerns grow over the long-term effects of both the earlier trauma and his current cardiovascular diagnosis. The diocese has emphasized that the combination of head and spinal injuries with advanced hypertension has created a complex clinical situation requiring sustained medical supervision.
Previously, the UOJ reported that Ukrainian protodeacon alleged false prosecutions of priests.
